If you’ve been following me for a while, then I’m SURE you’ve seen me post about Shakeology. You know all about it, many of you have probably tried it or even drink it regularly! But I’ve been adding something else to my daily routine… something many people aren’t too familiar with — Beachbody’s Performance Line.
Shakeology is SPECTACULAR for helping me get the nutrition my body needs, but in addition to Shakeology, these 2 drinks are helping me take it up a notch and build lean muscle!
Have you heard about the Performance Line? It’s been around for a while, but not many people have tried it! So today I wanted to share a bit more…
In particular, what are these “energize” and “recover” drinks I’ve been mentioning?
My Pre- and Post-Workout Supplements
Okay, first, I have to say this… I know there’s a bit of stigma attached to the word “supplements” in the fitness world. But unlike other products out there, the ingredients in these are 100% CLEAN AND NATURAL!
Actually, did you know that Beachbody Performance is the official sports nutritional supplement of the IRONMAN North America Series?!
These aren’t products that are going to make you “bulk up,” they’re simply designed to help your muscles perform better during your workouts and recover more quickly afterward.

Energize: My Pre-Workout Drink
What is Energize?
Or as many people refer to it, “liquid gold.” Energize is BY FAR my favorite in the Performance Line.
So, you know when you’re doing pushups and you start to feel like your arms are going to give out and you’ll fall flat on your face? Yeah… that doesn’t happen as quickly when you’ve got your “liquid gold!”
Energize contains low-dose caffeine to help give you energy and improve focus, all without the jitters that can come with too much coffee! It also has two ingredients, beta-alanine and quercetin, that help to reduce muscle fatigue and allow you to push yourself more without getting hurt!
I’ve been using this before workouts for a while now, but also sometimes just when I need a little energy boost during the day (cleaning the house, anyone?).
When and how do you drink it?
Like I said, this is a pre-workout supplement, it works best when you drink it about 30 minutes before your workout, but it can be consumed up to 1 hour before.
And the amount you use and how you mix it up depends on your weight:
- If you’re less than 160 lbs, mix 1 scoop + 8 oz of cold water.
- If you’re 160+ lbs, mix 2 scoops with 16 oz cold water.
Finally, how does Energize taste?… And what’s with the color?
Yeah, I know, if you’ve seen the Lemon Energize all mixed up, you’re probably questioning me right now about it being all natural. IT. IS. SO. YELLOW!
But I promise, that yellow color is totally natural, it comes from the quercetin that I mentioned earlier. Beachbody shared an entire blog on it here.
And flavor? It currently comes in 2 flavors: Lemon & Fruit Punch
Both of the flavors are delicious, they’re not overwhelmingly sweet like some pre-workout drinks can be, and they’re super refreshing! My favorite? Lemon definitely has a special place in my heart!

Recover: My Post-Workout Drink
What is Recover?
You mean, my delicious chocolatey post-workout milkshake?! Seriously… everyday I’m counting down out the minutes of my workout, waiting to have that chocolatey goodness! LOVE IT! There’s also an orange flavor that a lot of people love!
And most recently, they’ve even added a Plant-Based formula that’s 100% vegan! It’s made is pea protein in place of the whey for those that are on a plant-based diet or sensitive to whey and it’s JUST as effective as the original formula!
Not only does it taste crazy good, but it also helps us recover. It helps me wake up NOT feeling super sore. I can walk up stairs without my legs killing me. I can sit up to get out of bed without my stomach muscles feeling sore!
Aside from the protein in Recover, another key ingredient is BCAAs, which stands for branched chain amino acids. These amino acids help to promote muscle growth and help to REPAIR your muscles after your workout. Why do they need to be repaired? Well, each time you do a workout that’s more intense than you’re used to, your muscles actually tear slightly and then repair themselves, growing stronger each time!
When and how do you drink Recover?
Recover is going to help your muscles the most when you consume it within 30 minutes of your workout. And this one is one-serving-size-fits-all! Mix 1 scoop of Recover with 8 oz cold water and enjoy!
